Additionally, Jorvik Ghosts is a registered trademark in the UK under Trade Mark Number UK00004056058. This trademark protects our brand name, logo, and symbol, ensuring that our business and products are uniquely identifiable and protected.
What makes Jorvik Ghosts special?
Our ghosts are expertly handcrafted from a large variety of gemstones such as amethyst, jasper, agate, garnet, obsidian, and more, each with its believed benefits described. Every ghost comes with a unique Viking story card detailing their name, job, hobby, and lifespan.
How many ghosts do you offer?
We offer an extensive collection of Jorvik Ghosts, each uniquely characterised and meticulously handcrafted from over 100 different gemstones and natural stones. Similar-looking ghosts may be grouped together in collections, with any minor variations outlined in the description. For particularly unique ghosts, our Solo Ghosts, we specify in the listing description and title that the photos show the exact ghost you'll receive. Lastly, our Wounded Souls, marked by cracks and imperfections, symbolise Viking bravery and survival. Each carries the weight of history, connecting you to the fierce lives of warriors, craftsmen, and explorers, embodying the spirit of the Viking era.
What does the symbol mean on the base of your ghosts?
The symbol resembling ᛃ over ᚷ originates from the Elder Futhark runes, representing "Jorvik" and "Ghosts," which correspond to "Jera" and "Gebo" respectively. Jera signifies "hard work" and "positive outcomes," while Gebo symbolises "gift" and "generosity." Together, they connect us to the Viking era, embodying the essence of time and exchange.
Are you based in York?
Yes, our headquarters and primary operations are based in York, UK. However, we operate exclusively online and ship worldwide.
Are your ghosts made in York?
No. While our ghosts are inspired by the Viking connection with York, they are not crafted in York. Skilled artisans outside of the UK create our ghosts to ensure the highest quality standards.
Where are your ghosts made?
Due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with our supplier, we are unable to disclose where our ghosts are made. This agreement ensures the confidentiality of proprietary information related to our products, protecting both our business and our supplier's interests.
Are your ghosts made from real gemstones?
Yes, the authenticity of our gemstones is verified by our trusted supplier, who uses a reputable identification service and obtains certificates upon purchasing the raw materials. This ensures each gemstone is genuine and of high quality. We are committed to providing accurate descriptions and authentic products, and we comply with all regulatory requirements.
Why are your ghosts sourced internationally instead of locally?
We initially sought to source a supplier in the UK but were unable to find a local business capable of meeting our exceptionally high standards. Just as the Vikings were known for their extensive travel and trade, always seeking the finest materials and craftsmanship from across the world, we, too, have expanded our search beyond borders. The Vikings built connections far and wide, from Europe to Asia, to secure the best resources, tools, and goods. In that spirit, our carefully selected artisans from outside the UK provide a superior polished finish, weight, and overall feel that reflect the same commitment to excellence. We will continue to explore local options and welcome any local company that believes they can match our handcrafted quality to get in touch. However, just as the Vikings never settled for less, we will never compromise on the quality our customers expect.
What do you source locally?
We design and source our decorative Viking-themed boxes, unique Viking story cards, and packaging from UK suppliers and assemble these boxes with the ghosts and character cards in York, UK.
How do you ensure ethical practices?
We prioritise quality, transparency, and ethical practices. Our ghosts are handcrafted by skilled artisans, ensuring uniqueness and high standards. We re-use protective packaging whenever possible, and when purchasing new protective packaging, we choose only eco-friendly, recyclable materials. Our unedited site photography and detailed descriptions offer a clear and authentic view of our products, helping you make confident selections.
